Car Accident - Highway 29
September 30, 2010 - The California Highway Patrol reported that a 20-year-old Pope Valley man drove his 1997 Mazda pickup truck into opposing traffic at around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29. The man was traveling south on Highway 29 north of Spruce Grove Road when the car accident occurred. As it crossed over into oncoming traffic, the Mazda sideswiped the driver's side of a 2000 Ford F-350 pickup. The Ford truck was driven by a 33-year-old man from Clearlake. According to the CHP, the driver of the Ford swerved when he saw the Mazda. The Mazda then struck a 2006 Honda Civic driven by a 27-year-old Middletown man. The drivers of the Mazda and Honda were transported to a local hospital via air ambulance. The Mazda driver is reported to be in critical condition. Hospital staff said that the Honda driver was no longer at the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon. A spokesman from the Clearlake area CHP office said the CHP is still trying to determine what made the Mazda driver cross into oncoming traffic.
