Pedestrian Accident - Petaluma
September 22, 2010 - Petaluma Police are reporting that a 69-year-old woman and her 8-year-old grandson and 6-year-old grandaughter were struck by a vehicle at 8:10 this morning. The accident occurred only two days after a woman and a young girl were hit by cars in separate pedestrian accidents in Petaluma. The grandmother was walking her two grandchildren to school at La Tercera Elementary School at the time of the accident. According to police, the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle who hit them was talking to a pedestrian while attempting to turn left from Crinella Drive on to Leslie Way when the accident occurred. The grandmother was hit and went up on the hood of the vehicle. The two children were struck and knocked to the ground. Police said the victims suffered minor injuries and went to a local hospital for treatment. The teenage driver is a student at Casa Grande High School. A Petaluma police official said the teen was driving three friends to school and that he did not have a license. According to police, all four youths had gang affiliations and fled after the accident. Police located them at school about an hour later. Reports say that the driver was on probation and was prohibited from associating with gang members. Police said he was cited for driving without a license, driving without insurance and failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. The police will follow up with probation officials about additional violations.
