Products Liability/Dangerous Products
January 26, 2011 - A 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl were found dead in Huntington Beach, California on January 21, 2011. The bodies of the Orange County teens were found in an unoccupied apartment. An empty can of the controversial beverage "Four Loko" was found close to the dead teens. According to police investigators, the deaths may be related to drugs and alcohol. Toxicology tests have been performed. Coroner's officials are waiting for test results to determine whether or not Four Loko had any part in the deaths. The results could take up to six months. At least 13 states have banned Four Loko via their alcohol control boards. In 2009, the FDA warned four companies that make alcohol and caffeine drinks that their products were unsafe. Four Loko is a mix of alcohol, caffeine, guarana and taurine. Some have called it "blackout in a can." The drink is made by Phusion Projects. The company released a statement to the Los Angeles Times indicating that it works hard to make sure that its products are used in a responsible and safe manner by adults 21 and older. Last November, Phusion Products said that they would reformulate Four Loko by removing caffeine from it. The company said it was saddened by the deaths of the teens. If you or a loved one have suffered injuries or death as a result of a dangerous or defective product, you should consult an experienced Sonoma County personal injury attorney.
