Pedestrian Seriously Injured Crossing College Avenue

October 15, 2012 - According to Santa Rosa Police Department officials, a man was struck by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross College Avenue early this morning. Police are reporting that the man suffered very serious injuries in the 5:19 a.m. pedestrian accident. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a Honda Accord stopped in a westbound lane of College Avenue at the intersection with Mendocino Avenue. The driver was still inside his vehicle. The pedestrian was on the road injured and bleeding. It appeared that the Honda was headed westbound at the time of the collision and that the pedestrian was heading southbound in a crosswalk when he was struck. It was still dark out when police arrived on the scene and there was a heavy fog in the area that may have had an impact on visibility. Police believe the man was hit by the Honda and thrown up onto the windshield. He then tumbled over the car and struck the rear windshields before being thrown to the roadway. Both windshields were shattered as a result of the impacts. The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and internal injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical attention and surgery. The driver of the Honda sustained minor injureis from the broken glass. He received medical care at a local hospital as well. Westbound College Avenue was closed until about 11:00 a.m. while officers investigated the accident scene. The accident is still under investigation. Police know of at least one witness to the motor vehicle accident and are hoping to find more. Witnesses are being asked to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department. If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident you should contact the Law Offices of David R. Silva.
