Three Pedestrians Injured By "Impatient" Driver

October 10, 2012 - Three persons were injured in a pedestrian accident on Tuesday morning in Antioch, California. The accident occurred at approximataely 8:05 a.m. in front of Turner Elementray School. Antioch police reported that a crossing guard, her son and another woman that had stopped to talk to them were struck by a rented 2012 Audi A3 wagon. The Audi was traveling eastbound on Delta Fair Boulvard at a speed of at least 60 miles per hour. Police said the driver was driving in an "impatient" manner. The accident occurred when the driver swerved around a vehicle that was stopped for a red traffic signal. The Audi then struck the front of a Toyota Camry that was attempting a left turn on School Street before losing control and striking the pedestraians. A witness reported that the victims were hit "head-on" and that they went "flying through the air." The Audi did not appear to slow down before it hit them. It came to rest on it's passenger side and momentarily caught fire. The two adults sustained very serious injuries, including broken bones and lacerations. They were transported via helicopter to an area trauma center. Both are expected to survive. The boy was knocked to the ground but was not seriously hurt. He was driven to a local hospital for medical attention. Antioch police said that both occupants of the Audi fled the scene. However, one of them, a 22-year-old Antioch man, returend to the scene after running about a block away. The man told police that he had been drinking and that the other man inisde the car had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The apparently intoxicated man was arrested, but police did not specify the charges pending further investigation. They believe the man's story is "suspicious" and that he might be "taking the fall" for the other person inside the car. Police have not yet confirmed who was actually driving the Audi at the time of the car accident. Police are reporting that a witness came forward with cell phone photos and/or video that might help identify the driver of the Audi. The Camry was being driven by a 47-year-old man from Antioch. He was dropping his two young sons off at the school. None of them were injured. If you or a loved one have been injured by a drunk driver you should call us to discuss your rights.
