Wrong-way Driver Causes Accident on Highway 101

October 16, 2012 - California Highway Patrol officials are reporting that a 30-year-old Walnut Creek man was involved in a drunken driving accident early this morning. The accident occurred on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Healdsburg. The Walnut Creek man told investigating officers that he was heading home at the time of the motor vehicle accident. Officers said the man entered northbound Highway 101 going south in a 2009 Honda Civic. The accident happened almost immediately after the Honda entered the freeway at Dry Creek Road. A BMW traveling northbound was forced to swerve as the Honda approached him from the wrong direction. A CHP officer said that the Honda rolled over and the BMW collided with the center divider. The driver of the BMW was a 59-year-old man from San Francisco. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of "minor injuries" according to the CHP. The driver of the Honda did not appear to be injured. Officers put him through a series of sobriety tests that he failed. The man was arrested and charged with suspicion of felony drunken driving. He told officers he was visiting a friend in Santa Rosa and was on his way home when the collision occurred. Instead, he was given a ride to jail. The CHP indicated that the man had a prior drunk driving conviction in 2010. If you or a loved one have been injured in a car accident you should call us to discuss your claim.
